Oscar Macchioni, a native of Argentina, is an International Steinway Artist and an accomplished solo and collaborative pianist, professor, author, lecturer, and adjudicator. Oscar has performed extensively in Argentina, Italy, England, Poland, Serbia, Turkey, Mexico, and the United States, in prestigious venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Columbia University's Teachers College, Steinway Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. James's Piccadilly in London, and the National Conservatory in Argentina. His live performance for the esteemed Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center was broadcast nationally on radio and television. His programs feature an eclectic repertoire, ranging from Bach and Brahms to Piazzolla and Bolcom.


A passionate educator and internationally recognized pedagogue, Dr. Macchioni has given numerous presentations, lecture-recitals, and masterclasses at leading institutions and conferences worldwide. These include the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA), World Piano Conference (Serbia), Music Teachers National Association and The Frances Clark Center (USA), and the National Conservatory in Buenos Aires and the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman (Argentina). His sessions, often praised for their scholarly depth and practical relevance, have been honored with accolades such as the Outstanding Musical Presentation at the Second International Vernacular Conference in Puebla, Mexico, and the Diploma of Excellence from the World Piano Conference.


He is highly sought-after as an adjudicator at national and international piano competitions and festivals. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the Borderland Chopin International Competition and Festival.



Dr. Macchioni is the author of The Tango in American Piano Music: Selected Works by Thomson, Copland, Barber, Jaggard, Biscardi, and Bolcom, which was the inaugural volume in the College Music Society's Cultural Expressions in Music series. He has published widely on piano literature and pedagogy in journals such as American Music Teacher, Piano Pedagogy Forum, Piano Inspires, and Professional Piano (EPTA-UK). His work has been featured in Piano: La Lettre du Musicien (France), The Piano Education Page (USA), and numerous music magazines, radio, and television programs. He has recorded three albums of solo and chamber Latin American music, and his forthcoming album featuring Karol Szymanowski's early piano works is set for release in 2026.


In recognition of his teaching excellence, Oscar was awarded the prestigious Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award by the University of Texas System in 2015 and was inducted into the UTEP Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2019. He has received support and recognition from the Smithsonian Institution, the Polish Government, the Organization of American States, and the Leschetizky Association of New York. He also received the MTNA "StAr Award" and was named Distinguished Graduate Student by the University of Arizona.


Oscar holds degrees from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (Argentina), the Kraków Academy of Music (Poland), Louisiana State University, and the University of Arizona. From 2003-2023 he was a Professor of Piano, Assistant Chair, and Keyboard Area Coordinator at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he held the Bonnie Brooks Professorship in Music. Since 2023, Oscar has served as a Tenured Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Chair of the Division of Keyboard Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music.
